Officially, all of SunMicrosystems' own UnixOperatingSystem offerings have been SunOS version something. In fact the term is mostly used to refer to the BSD variant that was SunOS prior to the release of a different, SystemFive-based Unix as SunOS 5.0 in 1992. See SunSolaris.
