I use NEdit and I love it. It's no Emacs Lisp, but it is programmable. I'd recommend it to any user who doesn't want the learning curve of an Emacs or Vi and just wants to get things done. -- JaimeWong

The lack of any kind of unicode support is a show-stopper for those who store their non-English text files in UTF-8. However, as long as the restriction to 8-bit encodings is acceptable it's quite a pleasant tool; powerful without being cumbersome.
